"DeNISTing"
Many litigation support and computer forensic
professionals have discovered a relatively new and easy way to
reduce electronic discovery processing costs. How do
they accomplish this reduction without missing potential
evidence? By removing files that belong to Microsoft
Windows and other common applications, the overall
production is substantial reduced.
Common Microsoft Windows files are referred to as 'known' files
and wouldn't have been created or modified by a custodian. The NIST
(National Institute of Standards and Technology) list contains more than 40 million known files and by filtering
(
Why deNISTing?) these files, prior to electronic discovery processing, a significant reduction can be
realized.
Legal departments, forensic examiners and service bureaus use PG Pinpoint to filter
custodian files (often 30-50% reduction) prior to EED
processing and review. PG Pinpoint can significantly
reduce production cost by deNISTing and deduping custodian files
at a rate of 300-500 MB per minute.
PG Pinpoint Features:
Includes more than 40 million NIST hashes
MD5, SHA-1 and TIGER hash lists supported
Process 300 - 500MB per minute!
Customize hash lists
Identify encrypted files
Create forensically sound file copies
Compatible with all EED and litigation support applications
PG Pinpoint's bit stream copy engine (SafeCopy 2) allows
users to create copies of filtered files without
altering the file timestamps, original metadata, or file
contents. A chain of custody report is generated that
contains the hash values for the original and copied
files as well as their source and destination locations.
In addition to filtering known files PG Pinpoint identifies encrypted
files requiring open passwords. Identifying password
protected files as early as possible during EED
productions is critical to meet production deadlines.
Password protected files can't be indexed which means
the content isn't available when searching or culling
productions. Legal departments have found using PG
Pinpoint prevents delays by flagging password protected
files earlier in the production lifecycle.
Testimonials "PG Pinpoint provides a list of files which need to be processed by our e-Discovery
software, making our operation drastically more
efficient and in a forensically sound manner."

"The minimal training required
to run PG Pinpoint was a great benefit to us. One of the
challenges of a rapidly growing company is training new
employees. You have built a great product that not only
reduces our electronic discovery turnaround time but
makes it easy for our production staff to learn how to
use it."
